On March 16, 2025, the 5th Metallographic Skills Competition of BUCT and the Selection Competition for the 14th National College Student Metallographic Skills Competition were successfully held. This competition received sponsorship and strong support from Chenhua Instruments (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Beijing Yuechanghang Technology Co., Ltd. The competition consisted of preliminary and final rounds, with a total of 338 students from eight colleges registering to participate. After the preliminary selection, 40 students advanced to the experimental operation assessment phase of the final round.
The competition was presided over by Professor Li Zhilin. Contestants were required to complete grinding, polishing, etching, and microscopic observation of designated metal samples within the allotted time. The judging panel evaluated participants' metallographic skills based on three aspects: on-site operation, metallographic quality, and sample appearance. After intense competition, the final awards included 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 20 third prizes, and several participation awards.
