On April 19, the National Finals of the Second National College Students’ Career Planning Competition concluded successfully in Changsha. Ziqian Yuan, an undergraduate student of Grade 2023 of our college, won the Silver Award in the Higher Education Group of the Growth Track, marking the best historical achievement of our college in this competition
The Second National College Students’ Career Planning Competition was co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, themed on “Building Dreams in Youth, Making Plans for Careers”. This competition has attracted active participation from teachers and students nationwide since its launch in October 2024. A total of 15.07 million students registered, covering 2,763 universities, including 11.98 million applicants in the Growth Track and 3.09 million applicants in the Employment Track.
Since its official launch, the College of Materials Science and Engineering actively responded to the university’s call and attracted nearly 2,000 students to register through summarizing past experience in competitions hosting, mobilizing extensively, and meticulously organizing various activities, gaining the university-level “Best Organization Award”. Additionally, our students won 1 Gold Award, 2 Silver Awards, and 1 Bronze Award in the Beijing Municipal Competition, and 2 instructors were recognized as Excellent Advisors.
Ziqian Yuan closely aligned his career choice with the national energy development strategy by starting with the application of new energy materials in real life, choosing to be a researcher solving bottleneck issues in new energy materials. He combined the core logic of Materials Chemistry Major with career planning, sharing own research growth path from participating in scientific competitions as a freshman to writing review papers and applying for innovation projects as a sophomore. He won many honors such as the National Scholarship, University-level Merit Student, and Top-ten Volunteer, etc. In the future, Ziqian Yuan will continue to delve deeper into the field of new energy materials, making his youth shine in tackling technological bottlenecks!
He said: “I feel so honored to participate in the Finals of the Second National College Students’ Career Planning Competition, enabling me to clarify my goal of solving bottleneck issues in new energy materials. The competition helped me outline a growth trajectory similar to the lifecycle of materials from production to application, transforming textbook knowledge into practical scenarios of “Dual Carbon” strategy implementation. I hope our junior schoolmates can also use this competition to break free from the confusion of college life, find your own career goals, integrate personal ideals into our national green energy blueprint, illuminate the future of sustainable development with material innovation, and truly make scientific research achievements the key to solving energy transformation challenges.
